The Starfish Story
One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean.
Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?” The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t possibly make a difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…
“I made a difference for that one.” |

Acres Children and Family Services provides a variety of foster care and
adoptions services. Please follow the links below to learn more about
how you can help make a difference in the
life of a child.
Foster
Care Program
There are approximately
30,000 children living in out of home care in
Southern
California
. Canyon Acres foster care program
finds loving, stable homes for abused and neglected children ages 0 to
18. We provide a variety of support and services
in order to provide the safest, most stable environment for the children
placed
in our care.
Intensive
Treatment Foster Care Program (ITFC)
This program was designed
to place emotionally and behaviorally troubled
youth, who might otherwise be at risk of a group home placement, into a
more
normalized home environment with added services, support and specially
trained
foster parents. The goal of this program
would be to stabilize the child and slowly move them into less intensive
levels
of care.
REACH (Responding, Educating, Achieving, Caring
&
Healing)
Our goal is to provide loving and stable homes for children 0 to 18 years of age
with special medical issues and/or developmental delays. These conditions may
include anything from diabetes and autism to a child requiring the use of medical equipment such as a g-tube or a child that is severally developmentally disabled.
If you have a heart for children with special needs we will provide you with
special training, additional support and services.
Foster
to Adopt
Canyon Acres believes
children do best in permanent forever
families. In
California
, teens make up 54% of the
children waiting for a forever family. We
are always looking for families willing to adopt older children and
sibling
sets through the foster care system.
Pre-Placement
Evaluations for Independent Adoptions
Canyon Acres provides
Pre-Placement Evaluations for couples or singles
already working with an Adoption Attorney.
Our Pre-Placement Evaluations not only provide you with a
document you
can use for the finalization of your adoption but also provides you with
training, resources and preparation for your journey through adoption.
Relative Caregiver Adoption
Canyon Acres provides adoption home studies to relatives and caregivers wishing to adopt a child or children already placed in their home through Social Services.
Extended Family Support Network
Give
a foster child the opportunity to build and experience a positive
relationship with someone who cares for them. Help us to open their
world to new possibilities and create new dreams. Become mentor,
volunteer, babysitter or sponsor.
